Biography

  Dr. Andrea Holman began working for Lyra Health as a diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEI&B) program manager for workforce mental health in June 2021. In this capacity, Dr. Holman works to create and deliver educational content to employees at various companies about the impact of social identities on mental health in the workplace. Prior to this role, she served as a tenured associate professor of psychology at Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas, where she was recently hailed as Faculty of the Year for the 2019-2020 academic year. She served as co-chair of the health and wellness working group for the city of Austin's task force on Institutional Racism & Systemic Inequities. She has conducted research understanding the psychological experience of African-Americans, specifically the complexities of racial identity and cultural mistrust and their impact on interracial interactions. She also researches racial advocacy from the perspective of Black and Latinx Americans. She has contributed to articles (including publications inThe Counseling Psychologist and Harvard Business Review), book chapters, national conference presentations, virtual seminars, workshops and a number of podcasts discussing the aforementioned subjects.

Dr. Holman prioritizes moving what she believes to be critical information for interracial relations and racial justice out of the confines of academia and into the lives of community members. As such, she prioritizes investing in various community roles and service. For example, she is a current member of the board of directors for Humanities Texas. She also routinely conducts trainings and participates in speaking engagements at organizations and local churches about identity, racism and privilege and their impact on interpersonal relations.  She serves as a consultant for organizations who desire assessment for diversity, equity and inclusion practices and employee trainings around her expertise. She and her husband, Tepera Holman, are currently licensed foster parents through a local foster care agency and she has conducted training and given speeches for foster/adoptive parents pursuing interracial adoption. They have two biological sons, ages 7 and 4. She and her family appreciate spending time together and with friends and family, enjoying local restaurants and watching college football.
